ɫƬ University’s Center for Catholic Studies will host Jason King, PhD, Beirne Chair and director of the Center for Catholic Studies at St. Mary’s University in Texas, for a lecture entitled, “Value and Vision: Catholic Higher Education Today,” on Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. in the Barone Campus Center Dogwood Room.

The significance of “Catholic” in higher education often centers on core values such as living a meaningful life, fostering community engagement, and making ethical decisions. Drawing from the Higher Education Holistic Impact Report (HIR) report, Dr. King will explore how Catholic institutions uniquely shape their students' lives, emphasizing both intellectual and spiritual growth.
Dr. King’s academic journey includes an MA and PhD from The Catholic University of America. Over the course of his career, he has authored several notable works, including his most recent book The Green Mister Rogers: Environmentalism in Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, and the award-winning Love, Sex, and Families: Catholic Perspectives. His earlier works include Faith with Benefits: Hookup Culture on Catholic Campuses, a book published by Oxford University Press in 2017.
Dr. King has been recognized for his outstanding teaching with numerous awards, including the Thoburn Teaching Award and the San Damiano Service-Learning Award. He is actively involved in several academic and professional organizations, including the network Catholic Theological Ethics in the World Church, and the Society of Christian Ethics, and he serves as editor emeritus for the Journal of Moral Theology.
