Hepatitis B Fact Sheet

  • Serogroup B Meningococcal Vaccine is recommended.
    (This is not a requirement.)
  • Teens and young adults (16 - 23 years old) may also be vaccinated with a serogroup B meningococcal vaccine (Bexsero or Trumenba) to protect against most strains of serogroup B meningococcal disease. Two or three doses are needed depending on the brand.
(This vaccine is given in addition to the quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine.)

The University is strongly recommending vaccination against Covid-19 for all students. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone should be vaccinated as soon as they are eligible. The available Covid-19 vaccines are considered safe and effective. Individuals with “up-to-date vaccination” status are significantly less likely to become seriously ill or be hospitalized. Vaccination helps to break the chain of disease transmission, prevent the emergence of variant strains, and protect others as well as the vaccinated individual.

  • Students born before January 1, 1957, are exempted by age from the measles, mumps, and rubella requirement.
  • Students born in the U.S. before January 1, 1980, are exempted by age from the varicella requirement.
  • The University will accept medical exemption certificates if, in the opinion of the student's healthcare provider, such immunization is medically contraindicated. According to C.G.S. 10a-155(b)(1), a healthcare provider submitting a medical exemption certificate for a student attending a Connecticut institute of higher education must use the Medical Exemption Certificate available on the Connecticut State Department of Public Health .
  • The University will accept a certificate from a student's physician, a physician assistant, an advanced practice registered nurse, or the director of health in the student's present or previous town of residence, stating that the student has had a confirmed case of such disease.
  • The University will accept copies of statements that were, following applicable state law, formally executed before April 28, 2021, supporting that such vaccinations are contrary to the religious beliefs of the student.

Exemptions may subject the individual to exclusion from campus in the event of an outbreak of a disease or other circumstances.
